Hi. Thanks for stopping by. There’s soda in the fridge. Unless you drink mountain dew. In which case, get the hell out.
My mission statement with this site and the games I’ll be hosting here is for intelligent, fun, elegant game designs. That’s the hope anyway. Since I’m not very intelligent or elegant, the best we can expect is fun.
That said, I should probably explain a few things to those of you who don’t know who I am.
I’ve been working in the game industry since 1996. In that time, I’ve gone from editing a magazine, to writing game books, to art directing collectible card games, back to writing game books, then on to writing complete games, then art directing card games again, then developing and designing board games, and finally I’m on my own. All during that time, I also did freelance work as a graphic designer and twice as an illustrator. I can’t actually draw or paint, but I can fake it when I have to.
To say my past is storied would be an understatement. I’ve won 9 Ennies, 2 Origins Awards, and one Inquest Player’s Choice Awards (for the World’s Largest Dungeon). During all that time, I’ve never really been very good or really interested in self-promotion. As a result, most people don’t know who I am. Certainly I know people inside the industry, but most hobbyists don’t give credits much of a glance. Over the years, I’ve seen a number of game designers surpass me in popularity and talent because they are better at all of it, especially remaining relevant. Despite the changing landscape of the gaming world, I never really adapted to twitter, facebook, or any of the forums. It’s just not my thing. Sorry.
The point of all this is that I find it extremely arrogant to expect someone to come and read my page and give any thought to what I’ve written. For that matter, even spending a money on anything I’ve ever made. There’s so much noise on the internet with people clamoring to be heard. And really. I just want to make games.
So. If you decide to come back and you like what you read here. Great. Thank you. I do most of what I do because someone, somewhere enjoys it. If you’re inclined, leave some positive feedback. Hell. Leave some negative feedback. I can’t be right about everything simply because it’s my website and my game material.
In all fairness, I think you’re going to like what’s coming next. I’ve been writing notes and planning some of this stuff for years. And it’s time to just get it done.
